Disparities in Education Still Separate, Still Unequal
FOCIS presented a special appearance by author, educator and activist Jonathan Kozol on Sept. 26, 2008.
Kozol, whose published works have received the National Book Award, the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award and many others, is a passionate advocate of integrated public education and an outspoken critic of the voucher movement. One writer describes him as documenting the "continuing and often worsening segregation in public schools in the United States, and the increasing influence of neoconservative ideology on the way children, particularly children of color and poor children of urban areas, are educated."
Jonathan Kozol spoke on the topic of "Still Separate, Still Unequal: A Teacher's Struggle to Transform our Public Schools."
Following the lecture in Community Arts Auditorium, Jonathan Kozol signed copies of his books, The Shame of the Nation and Letters to a Young Teacher.
